THE ASCENDANT Director, Co-Writer HD, 22 mins. After his colony ship is caught in a micro-meteorite storm and is forced to ditch on an uncharted planet, Captain Thomas Voight-Kampf emerges from stasis to find his craft strewn out over miles across the desert of a barren planet. He immediately sets off in search of his wife and the ships rescue beacon. Soon enough he comes to realize that not everything is as it seems and the planet's secrets might hold the clues to the mysteries of his past.
MIRAGES ON THE SEA OF TIME Director, Writer HD, 4 mins. An experimental short film shot during a cross continental journey which becomes a meditation on the inner world of memory.
ACE IN THE HOLE Director, Writer Super 16mm Film, 9 minutes Two lovers enact a daring escape from an evil mistress and her hired hand. This was my first year narrative short at UT's MFA Film production program.

 Deepak Chetty is finishing his final year as a MFA Film Production Student at UT Austin where he was recently nominated for the second year in a row for the 2013 Kodak Student Cinematography Scholarship. He earned his BFA in Film Production from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY where he recieved both the Steve and Linda Horn Award for Excellence in Media Arts as well as the school's Princess Grace Award Nomination. As a director and writer his work has been recently featured at the Austin Film Society's "10 Under 10 program" and the Austin screening series "Short Indies". His work as a cinematographer has been featured in festivals such as SXSW, Silverdocs, The Hamptons International Film Festival ("A Night at the Dance") as well as Slamdance ("Hearts of Napalm", "33 Teeth") and the Seattle International Film Festival ("33 Teeth"). His video imagining of an "8-bit" video game version of the upcoming movie "Looper" has recently made the rounds on the internet, grabbing the attention of the film's director Rian Johnson and it's star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

On January 16th I will be headed to Park City, Utah for the festival premiere of "Hearts of Napalm" a short film directed by Andy Irvine. I was the cinematographer on this crazy/fun film. We will be joined by our producer Taylor Thompson and both cast members, Alex Dobrenko and Ashley Spillers. We're driving from Austin, which will be about a 2000 mile round trip. Awesome!

Welcome to the new site! I'll post some pictures of Haka (our pug) here to take up some space.

We got back from Park City last week! Happy to report that "Hearts of Napalm" was very well recieved! Congrats to Andy, Alex and Ashley. We had a great time and it was awesome to meet so many other filmmakers from around the country and world. Now onto "Tears At Dawn"! We start shooting this thursday- to get ya'll excited here's the camera test we did. All natural light and shot in about 20 mins on the Arri Alexa.

Next monday I'll resume filming Jordan Kerfeld's film "Tears At Dawn"! Here's a sneak peek from our first week of shooting!

Looking forward to keeping you all updated on all the work coming down the

pike this summer! We are ramping up pre-production on "Hard Reset"- I can't wait to show you all some sneak peeks over the next few months.

 

Also, Andy Irvine and Mark Smoot's feature film "Lover's Crossing" begins production this July. This will be my first feature cinematography gig, I couldn't be more excited to work with these guys and the talented cast and crew they've assembled.
